Three residents were rescued from a building fire in Bernard early Wednesday morning. The fire broke out shortly before 1 am at 268 Jess Street – the building is home to the Painted Horse Saloon on the main level and apartments on the second level. The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office says an adult and two children were trapped on the second floor. Rescue personnel were able to get them out through a second floor window. They suffered minor smoke inhalation and were treated at the scene. Residents next door at 519 Leffler Street were also forced to evacuate due to the smoke filling up their home.
