READERS' LETTERS: Do we want independence? Yes, but what's the rush? - Vimarsana News

READERS' LETTERS: Do we want independence? Yes, but what's the rush?

© Andrew MacColl/Shutterstock Sir, – What’s the rush for an independence vote? There are many of us who would love to live in an independent Scotland but simply do not believe the SNP can deliver all that it is currently promising or cope with such a huge transformation of our country. I would suggest that a date be set nearly 10 years in advance to allow the current Scottish Parliament sufficient time to prove it can achieve what it is promising voters. My proposed date would be Saturday, June 1, 2030 and voting would be compulsory. The SNP got 45% of the previous vote but only 60% of t...

READERS' LETTERS: How would men feel if they were treated as women are?

Sir, – Following the intensely sad news about Sarah Everard, I wonder. I wonder why men are so afraid of women, that they think they have the right to abuse, to terrify, to rape, and to murder? Why are men so afraid of women that they think they have the right to limit movements, to control, to dictate what would be ‘appropriate clothes’ and to refuse women the right to walk the streets and the parks, to restrict every movement? Is it because women are so strong to give birth to new life, something men are not able to do? Is it, that under severe circumstances, women show to be super st...

READERS' LETTERS: None of us are safe from Covid-19 until we all are safe

by Courier Readers © PA Sir, – On March 11 2021, it will be one year since the World Health Organisation declared Covid-19 a pandemic. In one year, millions of people from all corners of the Earth have died from this disease. In this same year, science has developed effective vaccines to fight Covid-19. But the vaccines have not reached all corners of the globe, and are not likely to do so soon. Billions of public money, was given to the manufacturers to enable the development of these vaccines. But they now insist that they keep the intellectual property rights, the patents and the ...

READERS' LETTERS: Corbenic care community approach offers dignity to residents

© Steve Brown / DCT Media Corbenic Camphill Community. Sir, – I write in response to the recent report by the Care Inspectorate about Corbenic Camphill Community (Disabled residents ‘at risk of harm’ from care workers, Courier, February 12). Corbenic is a small community for adults with learning difficulties. It is well known locally in Dunkeld where they have a shop and sell produce such as wooden furniture, candles, pottery and woven items. Corbenic also consists of a small farm which has rare breeds of animals and where the residents tend the land using very low-level mechanisation....

READERS' LETTERS: Time has come for change to Holyrood political scene

Let down and tossed aside with vaccine Sir, – I thoroughly agree with Valerie Wright’s letter (Vulnerable being left behind in Covid vaccine roll-out, Courier, February 9). I too stay in Broughty Ferry, I am in the 75–79 age group and like a lot of people have a few health issues. All my friends have now had the vaccination or have appointments for later this week. Three in their late sixties have attended Caird Hall and one has an appointment at a community hall in St Andrews. They are all delighted and very happy to have been given the opportunity much earlier than they expected.
