I've lived here my entire life and still haven't been to many of the best spots because I either forget they exist or don't know how to access them. Love 'em or not, out-of-state tourists will also find this map to be quite handy. Bitterroot Outdoor Journal As winter starts to lose its grip, the birds are picking areas for nesting activities in the area. This week's Bitterroot Outdoor Journal (heard Wednesday mornings at 7:45 on 1240 AM KLYQ and www.klyq.com) had examples of some home-building by the birds. Bitterroot Outdoor Journal Bob Danley of the Bitterroot Outdoor Journal recently walked out along the Bitterroot River at Maclay Flat. Doing so, he noted a bird, a mammal, a tree and a lichen to encompass a wide range of natural features in one easy-to-access location. This Lolo National Forest area is mainly populated with Ponderosa Pine trees (photo below). The trees can grow up to 195 feet and they do best in dry soils.
