Macon Township Board approves land-use request for solar facility

The Daily Telegram
MACON TWP. After nearly three years of planning, discussing and deliberating, the future of a solar energy facility in Macon Township was met with support from the Macon Township Board Monday.
The board voted 3-2 in favor of granting a special land-use permit to Invenergy, an American-based, multinational power generation firm, for the purpose of constructing the Mustang Mile Solar Energy facility.
Trustees Ed Clark and Beth Loesch, along with Supervisor Lee Wagner, voted in support of the application. Treasurer Beth DeJonghe and clerk Julia DeJonghe were the “no” votes.
The board’s meeting, which was rescheduled from May 3 because of scheduling conflicts, was held outdoors on the grounds of the Macon Township Hall. While attendance was not taken, board members stated it appeared that close to 100 people were there. ....

Consumers Energy, headquartered in Jackson, announced Wednesday it has been OK’d to purchase the Mustang Mile Solar Energy Facility, a 150-megawatt solar energy project being proposed for construction in Macon Township.
The purchase agreement was approved by the Michigan Public Service Commission, which, at its April 8 meeting in Lansing, also approved a build-transfer agreement between Consumers and Mustang Mile Energy LLC for the Mustang Mile project.
