Jamie Ortega (9 shots; 56%) led the way with five goals, as rookie Caitlyn Wurzburger (2G, 1A) chipped in three points. While the Irish did not come out on top, they certainly proved that they are capable of hanging with the No. 1 team in the nation. No. 1 North Carolina showed it’s human, but the Tar Heels remained undefeated with an 11-10 victory at No. 4 Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon. The Tar Heels, who won their first 11 games by an average of 11.5 goals, jumped out to an early 5-1 lead, but the Irish weren’t going away. Notre Dame gave North Carolina its toughest test of the season. The last time North Carolina had failed to win by at least 10 goals was a 13-6 win over Duke back on Feb. 26. ....

Syracuse had a 22 to 7 advantage on draw controls. Notre Dame goalie Bridget Deehan dominated the first half, but possession after possession for the Orange eventually became too much for the Irish defense to withstand. No. 2 Syracuse completed a weekend sweep of No. 3 Notre Dame, winning Sunday’s game 15-12 despite falling behind 7-2 in the first half. Syracuse sophomore Katelyn Mashewske keyed the victory, registering a career-best 13 draw controls to help the Orange to a 22-7 advantage.
