Patrick Schmiedlin's clutch goals lift Maine Nordiques to OT win over Danbury

Patrick Schmiedlin’s late-game heroics helped the Maine Nordiques snap their five-game losing skid Friday.
Schmiedlin scored twice as the Nordiques defeated the Danbury Hat Tricks 6-5 in overtime in a North American Hockey League East Division contest at the Danbury Ice Arena.
The Nordiques came back from a one-goal deficit twice in the third period to force overtime. Schmiedlin, who has committed to play at Colorado College, put home a pass from Makem Demers for the game-winning goal less than a minute into the overtime.
“Being mindful of the situation and how we execute our blueprint was the reason (we won),” Maine Nordiques associate head coach Matt Pinchevsky said. “They had gone over the plan and they believed in the plan. I would say it had everything to do with (our) mentality, and they remained mindful through the entire game.” ....

Over the weekend, the Maine Moose 18U team that plays out of Camden National Bank Ice Vault in Hallowell captured the United States Premier Hockey League 18U American Division title. The Moose defeated the Palmyra Black Knights 4-3 Sunday in York, Pennsylvania in the American final.
Two Lewiston-Auburn area connections were on the team, in Jacob Lewis of Auburn and Nate Marcotte of Sabattus. Lewis had an assist on Cameron Rizzo’s (West Gardiner) game-winning goal in the third period.
“We had a young team and coach (Matt) Lavallee does a good job with that group,” Maine Moose owner and Twin City Thunder co-owner Ben Gray said. “It’s a tough league and I was really impressed with how they went down and played really good hockey and came away with the championship.” ....
