Here’s who’s playing this summer so far, as pop concerts return to Maine Outdoor venues like Thompson's Point are starting to book shows, and some indoor ones already have full schedules. Photo by Zoran Orlic After an eerily quiet 2020, venues all over Maine will be filled with music this year. There were some small outdoor shows in Maine last year – at drive-ins or musicians’ homes – but this year, indoor venues and large outdoor ones are booking national acts once again. Some smaller venues had already booked a full schedule of summer shows, with limited capacities, and may now sell more tickets. Many of the larger venues were waiting for capacity limits and distancing requirements to be lifted and for national acts to start touring again and are now announcing dates.

After Gov. Janet Mills’ announcement Thursday lifting COVID-19 restrictions, Portland’s minor league baseball team quickly announced that it would allow fans to fill Hadlock Field to full capacity for games starting in June. Currently, the Sea Dogs allow only 28 percent capacity, 2,087 fans, at the ballpark.

Despite the fact that we are currently experiencing another COVID-19 wave throughout New England, concert promoters are optimistic about the upcoming concert season. We are seeing Waterfront Concerts schedule shows for both Darling's Waterfront Pavilion in Bangor and The Maine Savings Pavilion in Westbrook. And, in New Hampshire, we are seeing concerts being scheduled at the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion. At this point, it is mostly country and classic rock shows, but it appears we may soon see some pop and hip hop acts announce rescheduled shows. In addition to the shows in Maine and New Hampshire, it looks like concerts will return to Boston's Fenway Park this summer.
