The 61st annual Merrie Monarch Hula Festival was last week with the annual competition Thursday through Saturday. Hālau from across the state and California were invited to perform.
Hālau Ka Lei Mokihana o Leināʻala was awarded second place overall at the prestigious hula competition held in Hilo on the Big Island.
The three-day competition started Thursday with Miss Aloha Hula and continued on Friday with Kahiko (ancient) hula. The event culminated with the ‘auana (modern) performances on Saturday.
