PETALING JAYA: Fake news has been spreading in social media about diners having to re-register on MySejahtera if they were to spend more than an hour in an eatery.
The truth is, there is no time limit for customers who are dining in at any restaurant.
Malaysian Muslim Restaurant Owners Association (Presma) president Datuk Jawahar Ali said Presma members are well aware of this fake news.
“We have advised them not to believe such things as it would create unnecessary problems for their customers,” he said yesterday.
“Our members nationwide are informed of any new standard operating procedures (SOP) via a WhatsApp group.” ....

We need urgent rent aid or loans, eateries plea

PETALING JAYA: Restaurants and small coffeeshops hope the government can provide them with six months’ rental subsidies or interest-free loans to keep them afloat.
Malaysian Muslim Restaurant Owners Association (Presma) and Malaysia Singapore Coffeeshop Proprietors’ General Association (MSCPGA) said since their members have contributed to the government’s coffers in various forms of taxes, they hoped the government could reciprocate.
Presma president Datuk Jawahar Ali Taib Khan said “mamak restaurant” owners were now in dire straits as some rents have reached up to RM35,000 a month in the cities.
He said unless the government steps in immediately to provide rental subsidies, he foresees many more resorting to ah long (illegal loan sharks) to stay afloat. ....

PETALING JAYA: Many businesses that have been major drivers of economic growth may now go under unless help from the government arrives soon.
They are the retail, hospitality, food and beverage sectors, which also happen to be the worst-hit by the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent economic fallout.
The Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) warned that most hotels will be forced to close down and lay off staff if the government does not intervene, while the Malaysian Retail Chain Association (MRCA) fears that the second movement control order (MCO 2.0) may just be the final nail in the coffin for small businesses such as beauty salons, spas, theme parks and cinemas. ....
