EAST CANTON – Longtime village Police Chief Derrick Blake recently served a three-day suspension without pay for what village officials say was falling short of expectations in job performance. Village leaders sent Blake a letter outlining three areas of concern and stated he "was declared guilty of misfeasance and nonfeasance." The letter is in Blake's personnel file and was obtained by The Repository. Mayor Kathleen Almasy and Village Council President David Spencer's names appear on the letter. Township firefighters responded around 1 p.m. Tuesday. "There wasn't too much left," said Lt. Jordan Ott. "It was a pretty large garage. It was completely a total loss. It was fully involved when we got on scene." The resident was home at the time of the fire. He happened to be inside the house when he became aware of the fire, according to Ott. As of Wednesday, the cause was not known. "He wasn't able to tell us anything that could help us,"' Ott said. Among items inside the garage were two vehicles. "Everything was completely charred," Ott said. "Everything in there was a total loss."
