During a press conference on Thursday, religious leaders in Kansas City said it was an example of the strained police-community relationship in the city. Pat Clarke, the Director of the Oak Park Neighborhood Association told 41 Action News he sees the challenge first hand.
“The community does not trust police. That’s a problem. That’s a problem that everyone in Kansas City ought to be concerned about,” said Rev. Emanuel Cleaver III, senior pastor of St. James United Methodist Church.
Black Lives Matter supporters held a vigil outside the BP gas station on 63rd Street and Prospect Avenue to remember a man shot and killed by police in March.
