Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru died in an air crash in Kaduna on Friday.
Attahiru, a Hausa, was born on August 10, 1966. Intriguingly, he hailed from Doka in Kaduna, the State he passed away.
Attahiru was among the Service Chiefs appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari in January 2021.
The rest are General Leo Irabor – Chief of Defence Staff; Vice Admiral A. Z. Gambo – Chief of Naval Staff, and Air Marshal I. O. Amao – Chief of Air Staff.
In four months, the Nigerian Army under Attahiru recorded considerable success. Though troops were lost, several terrorists were eliminated. ....

Troops kill Boko Haram Commanders in fresh ambush, confusion hits ISWAP camp

In a renewed counter-insurgency operation, Nigerian troops in collaboration with the Multi-National Joint Task Force have eliminated top Boko Haram Commanders on Friday in strategic ambushes.
A military intelligence source told PRNigeria that troops eliminated two terrorists’ Commanders: Alai Bor and Maleum Modu, and other Boko Haram fighters in different locations in Borno State.
The source said: “Nigerian troops with the support of MNJTF eliminated Alai Bor, a leader of Boko Haram in Buwari village in Bama, while attempting to cross Gwoza-Pulka Highway with six other terrorists in his entourage.
“The other terrorists’ commander, Maleum Modu, and three Boko Haram fighters were gunned down by the Nigerian troops while the terrorists were conducting surveillance around Mafa axis. ....
