SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - No appointment was necessary today for a COVID-19 shot at Manatee Countyâs vaccination site at Tom Bennett Park. There were also no lines, no waiting, and very few people that came through.
The county reported only 330 people that came in for vaccinations today. Thatâs compared to nearly 2,000 on Monday, which was the last day for appointments for people getting their second dose, according to Joel Richmond, Emergency Management Coordinator and Incident Commander for the site. ....

MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. - When the red light activates, Katelyn Hutcherson answers the call.
911, what s the address of your emergency? she asks the person on the other end of the line.
She s picked up 911 calls for 14 years with Manatee County s Public Safety Department.
Every day is different, you can’t expect every day to be the same, ever. You always have to be prepared to think outside the box, she said.
Last year, as COVID-19 spread, her job became as vital as ever.
We had to learn how to adapt daily with everything that was changing, Hutcherson recalled. ....

A 17-year-old Spring Hill girl was electrocuted during Sunday’s violent thunderstorms as she tried to escape from her burning car after colliding with a fallen power line, troopers said.
The teen was driving down Evenglow Avenue in Spring Hill when she collided at about 12:15 p.m. with a power line brought down by a falling tree, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The driver side of her Dodge Avenger caught fire. She stepped on the live power line as she exited the car. ....

BRADENTON, FL The U.S. National Weather Service s Tampa Bay office confirmed that an EF-1 tornado touched down in Bradenton Saturday afternoon, the NWS shared on Facebook Monday.
The tornado damaged homes and injured one person in a neighborhood off El Conquistador Parkway near IMG Academy. The tornado, which appeared around 5:45 p.m., had peak winds of 95 mph and was on the ground for about a half mile, NWS said. ....
