Friends of the Ullswater Way host talk on lake s history

A TALK will be held on Zoom in the coming weeks, revealing how a Cumbrian lake was saved, the story of Lord Birkett and the Ullswater Preservation Society. Chair of Barton and Pooley Bridge Parish Council Miles MacInnes, will give the next talk for Friends of Ullswater on May 6 at 7.30pm via Zoom. The presentation will be part of the Understanding Ullswater Evening Talks Programme. Miles has lived in the Ullswater valley all his life and remembers the successful campaign in the 1960 s when Manchester Corporation Waterworks planned to extract water from Ullswater by building a weir at Pooley Bridge thus permanently raising the level of the lake.
