Blacks and Jews in NYC: Lessons from the fires last time
A smattering of headlines across local New York City newspapers read: “On Blacks and Jews”; “The Myth of Black Anti-Semitism”; and “Who’s Anti-Semitic?” You might be forgiven for thinking those bulletins were penned in recent weeks. However, they were all created more than 50 years ago, at another moment in Gotham’s history when questions about Black and Jewish relations were at the forefront of public discourse.
