Maryland tax preparer sentenced to more than two years in federal prison for preparing false returns and aggravated identity theft
April 29, 2021 — U.S. District Judge Theodore D. Chuang sentenced Maria Espinal of Montgomery Village, Maryland, yesterday to 27 months in federal prison, followed by one year of supervised release, for aiding and assisting in filing false tax returns and for aggravated identity theft. Judge Chuang also ordered Espinal to pay restitution in the amount of $106,066.
