Holland Township takes step forward in farm stand expansion

The farm briefly operated a farm stand at 461 Chicago Drive, but received a cease-and-desist letter from the township in May 2020.
The planning commission suggested the farm appeal to the township board directly for an exemption to operate its farm stand, rather than changing township ordinance for a single property.
But that request was ultimately denied over legal concerns that, if an exception were made for Visser Farms, other third-party sellers could make similar requests.
In September, the planning commission returned to the subject, and a subcommittee was created to draft possible language for an amendment.
Since then, the commission and township staff have explored ideas, shared concerns and listened to community input during a string of meetings.
