Dame Katherine Grainger, the Olympic champion rower, lauded for carrying the Elizabeth Sword during the Edinburgh service
Dame Katherine Grainger was lauded for her role in yesterday's service after she deftly carried the new Elizabeth Sword and presented it to King Charles at St Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh.
The jewels are hundreds of years old and were once worn by the Scottish monarchs long before their dynasty ended.
Two months after Lord President Penny Mordaunt won plaudits as the first woman in history to carry the Sword of State at a Coronation, another ceremonial sword is about to play a starring role.
The ceremonial weapon forms part of the Honours of Scotland, which were presented to the King this afternoon inside Edinburgh's St Giles' Cathedral.
