Posted2/25/2021 5:20 AM Des Plaines City Council candidates are split on whether city hall should have enforced temporary bans on indoor restaurant dining and bar service ordered by Gov. J.B. Pritzker because of rising COVID-19 infection rates. Nine candidates recently discussed those limitations and other issues with the Daily Herald during remotely held endorsement interviews.
Seats representing the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th wards will be on ballots for the April 6 consolidated local election. All carry 4-year terms. Suriano s departure from the contest leaves four candidates for the 3rd Ward seat: Eugene Fregetto, Shawn T. Killian, Sean Oskerka and Norbert J. Paprocki. In an email to the Daily Herald, Suriano endorsed Fregetto. Term limits prevent incumbent Denise Rodd from seeking reelection. ....
Critic trying to knock Des Plaines mayoral candidate off ballot Andrew Goczkowski
Updated 12/31/2020 9:02 PM A former Des Plaines political candidate has formally objected to a current mayoral hopeful s nominating paperwork in hopes of knocking him off the April 2021 ballot. Mike Lake, who ran for mayor in 2009 and for 2nd Ward alderman in 2003 and 2007, is targeting Andrew Goczkowski s candidate petitions, saying they weren t properly notarized and contain many invalid signatures.
Goczkowski is the city s 8th Ward alderman and is making his first bid for mayor. He said Lake s allegations are baseless and called his petitions ironclad. Goczkowski is one of four mayoral candidates in Des Plaines. The others are 6th Ward Alderman Malcolm Chester, former 4th Ward Alderman Dick Sayad and former 8th Ward Alderman Michael Charewicz. ....
