The legislation would raise the tax credit caps from $2 million to $5 million.
The bill would require small businesses to allow employees to stay on their healthcare insurance up to 18 months after leaving their job if they cannot find other coverage.
The fees would be levied on nonprofit churches, educational facilities, health care facilities, public museums, art galleries, zoos, facilities to care for people with disabilities and mental illness, athletic fields, low-income housing and more, according to the bill.
House Bill 391 seeks to put a “user fee” on a host of nonprofits to pay for road maintenance, police, fire departments and emergency services.
More than a dozen nonprofit organization officials told a Republican lawmaker Wednesday her bill was a tax masquerading as a fee that targets some of Montana’s most vulnerable people and the organizations that serve them.
