A staffer with the Newport Beach Utilities Department reported the flooding on Bayside Drive at 8 a.m. Wednesday. There was concern a 30-inch city water pipe had burst, but it was a smaller, private pipe.
The system, which has been online since 2008, will be receiving its final expansion this year, which officials say will bring make about 85% of the city's drinkable water, renewable groundwater.
The National Weather Service warned tides would peak at 7.18 feet on Wednesday before slowly dropping back down by the weekend.
