She was born on Father’s Day, June 15, 1941 in Bell, Calif. to Criss and Frieda (Larsen) Ash. Her parents returned to the Ash family farm in Broken Bow when she was a toddler. She grew up attending Sunday school and church at the First Christian Church. As a young girl she showed a talent for singing and playing the piano.
