The Green River Police Department is receiving some help from the Women’s Club of Rock Springs. The club hosted a bake sale at International Day in Rock Springs Saturday, selling cookies featuring the GRPD therapy dog Buddy, as well as dog scarves and pet treats. Jacki Allison, a representative of the group, said they raised $316 for the department’s dog fund. Currently, Buddy is the only dog the GRPD has, but the fund would go to provide for any dog utilized by the department. Buddy specializes in providing support for people and is a distraction for those in crisis, helping both adults and children cope with traumatic events. People are allowed to touch, hold or pet Buddy as they recount traumatic events to investigators. Buddy is seven months old and lives with his handler, Det. Martha Holzgrafe. In his off hours, he enjoys playing fetch, looking for birds and relaxing on his bed.
