The leadership of the New York City Police Department faced stiff questioning at a City Council budget hearing Tuesday over its handling of protests, overtime spending and an increase in shooting incidents, leading to angry outbursts from both council members and top NYPD brass.
In one tense exchange, the chair of the council’s finance committee, Daniel Dromm, reprimanded NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea for spending on overtime pay for officers. The department budgeted $240 million for overtime through the end of June, Dromm said, but had already spent $370 million, including on a large and much criticized response to racial justice protests last summer.

Andina to open new flagship Peruvian restaurant in Spitalfields

Peruvian restaurant brand Andina has secured a large site on Commercial Street close to its original home on Shoreditch’s Redchurch Street.
Leisure property agency Shelley Sandzer secured the 3,000 sq ft two-floor restaurant, which is expected to open this summer and is billed as a new flagship for the brand.
Andina is part of the Ceviche restaurant group, and is described as a modern all-day dining concept, focused on providing healthy food and drink inspired by the Peruvian Andes.
Classic ceviche dishes of hake and sea bass will feature at Andina’s new site, alongside authentic Peruvian staples such as seafood chowder – known as chupe – and corn cakes.

This did not prevent the British media outlet from nourishing hope in future international trips and —through its virtual travel guides— readers are able to explore music, culture, literature, and local cuisine, fostering travelers' curiosity as far as health conditions allow.

There’s something fitting about a virtual guide to Peru. For would-be conquistadores, it was a land of fantasy and imagination. The very name of the country would have conjured up illusions of untold treasures, Inca emperors, wild beasts and heathen practices. Lima was the seat of Spain’s South American imperial territories for 300 years; it was where you had to be if you wanted to acquire booty, land, or influence. But it was traversed by impassable mountains and treacherous rivers, fringed by dark jungles in the east and uncharted seas to the west.
