Police have confirmed the items at the centre of Marton's lockdown on Wednesday afternoon were detonators.
Much of central Marton was closed as police responded to what was believed to be explosives found in a car.

It was wonderful to see local people arrive at Te Poho o Tuariki's first open day, Ngā Wairiki Ngāti Apa spokeswoman Kiri Wilson says.
The Rangitīkei tribe's open day was on Saturday, February 27, at its iwi headquarters Te Poho o Tuariki in Marton. The 5ha complex is the former Turakina Maōri Girls' College, which Ngā Wairiki Ngāti Apa bought in April 2018 and officially opened in February 2019.

Rodney the cat, the famous feline who first sprang to the public's attention after being dumped outside Marton, is back in care once again after spending nearly four months on the run.
Barring a return trip to the great unknown, he will spend the rest of his days being looked after in Whanganui.
Last July Rodney was allegedly dumped about 15km north of Marton having been a fixture of the town's ITM shop floor for the best part of a decade.

Planning work has started on-site for the construction of the Marton rail hub, proposed to be built off Makirikiri Rd.
The development of the rail hub was announced in 2020 in a partnership between Rangitīkei District Council, Te Rūnanga O Ngā Wairiki Ngāti Apa, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment's Provincial Development Unit and Rangitīkei Forestry Holdings.
Once complete, it will be a key logistical hub for the lower North Island forestry industry. More than 80 jobs will be created during the construction phase and 22 full-time positions when operational.
