Covid-19: Governments row over funding for Scotland's hospitality sector


According to the Chancellor, businesses in Scotland will have access to nearly £600 million through the scheme.
Venues are still likely to receive support – but it is not yet clear how much of the money will have to be taken from other sources.
On Ms Forbes’ claims, Stuart McPhee, director of Aberdeen bar and hotel Sibera and spokesman for the Aberdeen Hospitality Together industry group, said: “Money that becomes available for business support, needs to get out to businesses as quickly as it possibly can.
“Like every round of funding we have had so far, the devil is in the detail and we need to see what transpires and how quickly it comes to the businesses. ....

Restaurant and bar owners fear for future as tier 4 restrictions announced

North-east hospitality businesses have spoken of their disappointment and fears for the future over the looming level four restrictions.
Calls for more support for the troubled hospitality sector, as well as retail have been made.
Non-essential shops, pubs and restaurants will have to shut except for takeaways, drive-throughs and deliveries. Only essential travel will be permitted.
The news follows confirmation from scientists of a faster-spreading coronavirus strain.
Indoor mixing will only be allowed on Christmas Day.
A “strict travel ban” has been maintained between Scotland and the rest of the UK over the festive period – including Christmas Day. ....

'Heartbreak' for Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire hospitality as region moved to Level 3

However, some business leaders hope the introduction of Level three restrictions will encourage people to support local during the festive season.
Colin Cameron, who owns the Kirkgate Bar, The Bridge and Masada Bar, said pub bosses need customers, not support.
He said: “It’s a real disappointment for the hospitality industry in Aberdeen because we have done so well.
“In my three pubs, we are doing our best to ensure people have a substantial meal when they are having alcohol and are complying with the rules. Customers really appreciate what we are doing and the staff are all up for it. ....
