Mayor Lori Lightfoot and top officials of the Chicago Police Department and Chicago Fire Department gathered with dozens of others Wednesday morning for the ribbon cutting for a new $170 million joint-training facility in West Garfield Park.
The new facility in Humboldt Park features a six-story tower with each floor simulating a different environment to help train Chicago firefighters.
The facility includes a “scenario village” that features multiple two- and three-flat residential brick buildings complete with fences, curbs, alleys, sidewalks, yards, back stairways, porches, basements and garages. It will also include a new 18,000-square-foot location Boys & Girls Club and two restaurants.
It was a day of remembrance Wednesday on Chicago’s Northwest Side.
Plummer had been on the job for only a year before his death.
