Hood are safely off the mountain, but sadly someone who fell 7,000 feet yesterday has died. Its more than 11,200 feet high, notorious for its treacherous conditions in warm weather, thousands climb it each year. One climber whos climbed it 20 times says hes never seen worse conditions. A climber fell several hundred feet in treacherous conditions today at the most visited peak in the u. S. Fellow climbers were scene performing c. P. R. , another waved to a rescue chopper. Shortly after, a rescuer was lowered. A number of hikers remain stuck on the mountain tonight with more rough weather expected overnight. Amy frazier of kointv, our cbs portland affiliate is at mt. Hood. Reporter jeff, there are at least seven climbers who are still trapped on mt. Hood. Rescuers from all over this area are headed to the mountain. More than 40 people helping with this rescue, and its a race against time. Scaling the hogsback trail, the first climber was close to the 11,000foot summit of oregons toughest and highest peak when he plunged nearly 700 feet down the icy mountainside.
