The lights came back on across large parts of East London at just after 2pm on Tuesday after an unprecedented 40-hour-long power outage that crippled industry, left residents in the dark, and cost untold amounts in lost revenue, production and spoilt food.But minutes after the power was restored, some residents complained it went off immediately, apparently due a combination of scheduled load-shedding and other unscheduled faults.

Widespread rains have been falling across the region, and in Komani, and they flooded buildings and forced private and public hospitals to turn to each other for help.

More than 400 residents and more than 70 animals had to be evacuated after the Komani River overflowed following a night of heavy rainfall, which affected low-lying communities.

Severe rainfall led to flooding in low-lying areas and overflow of the Komani River.

The floodwaters left a trail of destruction in the town, damaging homes, fences, entertainment areas and flooding the ground floor of a hospital.
