Greiderer & Lamparter fly to first-ever Austrian Team Sprint gold

Lukas Greiderer and newly minted World Champion Johannes Lamparter were unbeatable also in today s Team Sprint and claimed the first-ever World Championship gold medal in the format for Austria. The crossed the finish line a clear 39.6 seconds ahead of Espen Andersen and Jarl Magnus Riiber of Team Norway, who claimed silver. Team Germany with Fabian Rießle and Eric Frenzel outsprinted Ryota Yamamoto and Akito Watabe of Team Japan for Bronze (+1:07.4).
The fight already began on the jumping hill in the morning when Team Japan captured an expected lead. Two beautiful jumps of 136 metres gave Akito Watabe and Ryota Yamamoto the lead with 296 points. However, after Johannes Lamparter’s World Champion title from Thursday, the Austrian team continued to be on fire. Lamparter hit another amazing jump and flew to 140.5 metres. Bolstered by teammate Lukas Greiderer’s 133 metres (295 p.), the Austrians were just two seconds behind the Japanese on the start line ....

Preview: Oberstdorf 2021 begins with normal hill events including historic premiere

The first week of the Oberstdorf 2021 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships is in full swing and the first three Nordic Combined competitions on the HS 106 normal hill are approaching fast.
The men will begin with their Individual Gundersen event on Friday, while the Nordic Combined women will have their historic World Championship premiere on Saturday. The men’s Team Event is on schedule on Sunday and will conclude the normal hill events.

In the men’s event, it will be up to World Cup leader Jarl Magnus Riiber (NOR) to defend his Seefeld 2019 maiden title and he goes into the competition as the heavy favourite. Seefeld silver medallist Bernhard Gruber (AUT) will not be on start to defend his medal after his health scare and subsequent second heart surgery after the Lahti Ski Games but bronze medallist Akito Watabe (JPN) has made his aspirations for medals in Ober ....

Medals looking for owners: Oberstdorf 2021 is here


The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf are on our doorsteps and from 24th February to 7th March, a total of five sets of gold, silver and bronze medals will be looking for new owners.
Five are one more than usual on the Nordic Combined programme during a World Championships and this is because finally the Nordic Combined women will make their highly-anticipated World Championship debut. After debuting on World Cup level in December, the women’s season has been woefully cut short due to Covid-19 pandemic-related cancellations and so the chance to shine on the big World Championship stage is twice as important for the continuous development of the discipline. ....

Christian Deuschl seems to be able to deal with pretty much any hill. Also at the first Continental Cup event in Lahti the Austrian landed the longest jump of the day (97.0m, 127.3p) and started the cross-country race with bib number one, 15 seconds ahead of Norway’s Andreas Skoglund (96.5m, 123.5p.) and 20 seconds ahead of Matteo Baud from France (96.5m, 122.4p.). After having struggled a bit on the hill during the last few competitions, also Lars Ivar Skaarset showed a stronger performance (95.5m, 120.9p.) and was able to start the race 26 seconds behind Deuschl. Sakutaro Kobayashi (93.0m, 120.9p.) and Christian Frank (92.0m, 118.9p.) completed the top six after jumping. ....
