"Anytime such acts are perpetrated based on race, sexual orientation or religion, it's wrong, and we will pursue it," Police Chief Tim McLin said.
Police said the case remains under investigation as they await final reports and indicate there is no danger to the public.
Roland Letourneau III is currently free on bail.
