To 1973 it was called british honduras. English is the first language of the population as a result of its colonial history. We flew into belize city then caught a turbo prop south along the coast to the town of punta gorda. In the air we observed the dense tropical jungle unfolding below, mile after emerald mile. Several rivers drained the rainforest emptying their contents into the caribbean sea. Our plan was to explore the country and fishing these rivers.
