台灣高鐵苗栗通霄路段受大雨影響，造成邊坡土石滑落，原採全線以單線雙向模式運轉，經評估土石滑動範圍有擴大之虞，緊急宣布今天中午起暫停苗栗至台中區間雙向運轉，以確保安全。家住附近的苗栗縣通霄鎮民代表曾榮民表示，目前目測已有約20公尺寬的邊坡滑落，且範圍隨時可能會擴大。
一早台灣高鐵官網發布苗栗路段入侵偵測告警，導致部分列車延誤。延誤原因正是因為熱帶性低氣壓帶來的豪雨影響，猛烈雨勢導致苗栗路段邊坡落石，但大雨持續，高鐵考量邊坡滑動範圍有擴大之虞，為確保營運及旅客安全，高鐵公司宣布暫停苗栗至台中區間雙向運轉，以確保安全。
