Immune checkpoint inhibitors are used to treat cancer by stimulating the immune system to attack cancerous cells. Immune checkpoint inhibitors have improved the prognosis for patients with a wide range of malignancies including melanoma, non-small cell lung cancer and renal cancer. In some patients, this enhanced immune response may target kidney tissue, leading to acute kidney inflammation known as interstitial nephritis."
