Nearly two years after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the state of emergency for the city of Independence is being allowed to expire.
The project, which would cost nearly $70 million, was criticized by some residents for its use of fossil fuels.
The new sidewalks will run from Cassell Park Elementary for nearly a half-mile along the east side of Hardy Avenue south to 35th Street. They should be done before school starts in August.
