The Massachusetts correction officers union is urging Gov. Maura Healey to slam the brakes on the closure of MCI-Concord, warning that this move would be dangerous and put "officers and inmates at risk."
Union leaders are worried the inmates at MCI-Concord will be re-classified to lower security facilities, which they say puts both officers and inmates at risk.
State officials are closing MCI-Concord prison, which is the only Massachusetts prison unit dedicated to young fathers, state Sen. Jamie Eldridge said in a statement Wednesday.
