You re seeing him just lash out. that seems to be what s going on here with the attack on mueller, whom if memory serves, he has not named before in his tweets. he s attacked it much more generally with the no collusion all caps tweets. this goes after mueller name checks him directly. it s funny, david, you talk about maybe this brings out some republicans. i mean we are now getting names of some republicans. yes, you have the usual suspects on some of the sunday shows. a few. a few, yes. mitch mcconnell mia in any of this criticism. gloria, most recently led me add to the graham, flake, rubio statement, now you have senator bob corker warning of a, quote, total upheaval in the senate if trump tries to fire mueller. he s calling for a bill to protect mueller and tie it to the must-pass spending bill. and we just heard from orrin hatch, quote, it s the stupidest thing that trump could do. so what do orrin hatch and bob corker have in common? ....

Today is between liberal democrats and the american people. they re stuffing all kinds of issue in there, abortion, environment, health care. let s get the very latest. with me gloria borger, from capitol hill, senior congressional correspondent dana bash. you ve been working this all day, heading into the meeting with the president tonight, can they have a deal, close enough to get a deal tonight? i m being told not to expect a deal tonight. miracles do happen but that is what i m being told heading into tonight. how much progress they made today really depends on who you ask. at the white house, they re saying they don t think there was progress today. i ve talked to democratic officials and republican officials here on capitol hill where discussions took place today and they said progress was there. in terms of the big things, how much they re going to cut, more importantly what they re going ....
Official did say his understanding was that the military would not get paid after april 8, the friday deadline, if there is no money to give them. but in terms of what michele bachmann said, that there will be federal workers working, yeah, because they re called essential workers. so i think for people out there who are not working for the federal government who are not trying to get to the statue of liberty, they may or trying to get a file their taxes on paper, they won t feel it, but, look, i mean this is politics. regardless of whether they feel it or not, they re going to see the symbolism, they re going to see the pictures, and the people out there who say they want government to work and they want everybody to compromise, they re going to be angry. there is, though, gloria, a trust deficit in town. one of the issues we re hearing is the democrats didn t do their jobs lafts year. one the reasons it s so hard now is because the democrats and republicans are having these ide ....
If there s a shutdown, closed. smithsonian museum, shutdown. irs refunds. if you don t have it now, especially if you re waiting for a check in the mail, let s hit that again, possibly delayed. u.s. postal service. you might think the mailman s not going to come. that s not true. they keep their own money. they run their own money, they keep it. people have to fact-check what might happen if we get a shutdown. the main question is, can these people be grown-ups? they re in a big historical building tonight. maybe they can be grown-ups? well, that s a big if and we can t be pollyanna about this. we were around in 1995 when the government shut down. and it did shut down. and it could happen. it could happen again. i mean, i think they ve got to figure out a way out of it but we may not know until the last minute. that s the way it always goes. gloria, dana, thanks. up next, time magazine s ....
