The Penny Ice Creamery is holding its annual Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at all locations. Also, the ice cream shop has Valentine’s heart-shaped ice cream pies, featuring dark chocolate ice cream, sea salt, caramel, and a chocolate crumb crust, available at stores and online.
The annual Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk Chili Cook-Off will be held Saturday. Tasting kits go on sale at 10 a.m. and tasting begins at 1 p.m. For $12, you get samples from six of the booths plus a People’s Choice ballot. Two types of chili will be offered: Red (con carne) and Vegetarian.
The annual Fall Harvest Festival is from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the UC Santa Cruz farm. There will be an apple pie contest, apple pressing, hands-on gardening workshops, kids’ activities and live music. Plus, local food vendors including Adorable French Bakery and The Pesce Veggie will have items for sale.
Reef Dog Deli in Capitola will shutter its doors for good on Sept. 23. Hours are currently 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Owner/chef Anthony Kresge hopes to reopen in a larger venue in the future.
