As a snow storm prepares to slam into Memphis and the Mid-South, many are wondering if their utilities will hold up or if the Tennessee Valley Authority will issue another series of rolling blackouts in the bitter cold.
A spokeswoman for Memphis, Light, Gas and water confirmed crews are working with a contractor to install LED bulbs in 77,280 street lights across the city. So far, 67,216 bulbs have been replaced. However, 1,716 of the new lights are not functioning properly "for a variety of reasons."
