In 1958, the Invading Column number 8 under the command of Che Guevara, arrives to Ciego de Ávila on its way to Havana. Once there, the Comandante meets Juan Olimpio Valcárcel 'Tin', a physically disable kid who, after helping the guerrilleros, asks Guevara to join the Column. Che tells him that he can't take him because of his physical condition, but promises to bring him to Havana after the Revolution succeeds and provide him with education and health care. Nevertheless, before continuing the march, the kid asks the guerrilla leader to take his mare with him, which is his only toy and mean of transportation. Soon after the triumph of the Revolution, Che asks the authorities of Ciego de Ávila to bring 'Tin' and his mother to Havana in order to fulfill his promise.
