The council was presented with a list — compiled by the League of Minnesota Cities — of candidates in the state who could be hired on an interim basis.
Pedestrian safety along Belmont Road, especially near the area of the Point Bridge and Phoenix Elementary, has been a top concern that has been voiced before by several council members.
The meeting between the councils is the first they’ve held since July, when council members met in a similar setting to discuss proposed bridge projects.
Going forward, Grand Forks should reconsider and agree to pony up its share of the consulting and scoping fees. Even better, Polk and Grand Forks counties also should join in the sharing of costs, further reducing the impact to each of those entities – all of which will benefit from a new bridge over the Red River.
