Nets' Kevin Durant (thigh) ruled out vs. Pelican

NBA: Brooklyn Nets at Miami Heat
Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant will miss Tuesday’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans due to the left thigh contusion he suffered during Sunday’s loss to the Miami Heat.
The Nets haven’t yet revealed a timetable for how long Durant may be sidelined. Coach Steve Nash said after Sunday’s game that Durant would be re-evaluated on Monday.
Durant has played in just 24 of Brooklyn’s 57 games this season. He recently returned from a 23-game absence due to a hamstring injury.
Durant is averaging 27.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.2 assists.
Brooklyn also continues to be without star guard James Harden (hamstring), who will sit out for the seventh straight game.

Robert Kania has coached a lot of football over the years, serving as an assistant at Penn, South Central, Portage, Wheeler and Chesterton.
After spending the last eight seasons with the Trojans and coach Mark Peterson, Kania confirmed Monday that he's finally leading his own program. The 1991 Penn grad has returned to Wheeler and has been hired as the Bearcats' new football coach.
"I started my career at Penn (in 1996) and won a (Class 5A) state title. I should've retired then," Kania said, laughing. "I've kind of worked my way around, but I've enjoyed every second if it."

Heat run away in 2nd half, roll past Rockets 113-91

MIAMI -- — The Miami Heat were missing their three leading scorers, and still had more than enough to get past the Houston Rockets.
Kendrick Nunn scored a season-high 30 points, Duncan Robinson and Goran Dragic each added 19 and Miami beat Houston 113-91 on Monday night.
The Heat were playing without Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro — a trio that averages 55 points per game — and outscored Houston 59-36 after halftime.
“That’s our culture, guys being ready to go and guys wanting to leave their mark on the game,” said Miami’s Andre Iguodala, who scored 16 points. “Tonight was one of those nights where we had a lot of guys leave their mark.”

A deep dive into how the Blazers' most prized offseason acquisition, just randomly benched, now fits into their full-strength roster.
Sunday's benching of Derrick Jones Jr., somehow, apparently had nothing to do with the Trail Blazers' most prized offseason acquisition himself. In fact, his game-long absence against the Charlotte Hornets wasn't even planned before tipoff.
As Terry Stotts tells it, Jones got the shaft against the Charlotte Hornets simply because Portland wanted an extended look at a veteran journeyman it just signed to a second and final 10-day contract.

It can be hard to keep track of the various policies. Every team is different. So in the blurbs below,
New Times breaks down where each Miami pro sports team stands on live crowds, as of mid-April. (One thing they all seem to agree on: Facemasks are mandatory.)
Note: We'll do our best to update this information periodically until the New Normal looks more like the old normal. If you notice any out-of-date info, please let us know with an email to [email protected]
Miami is all about exclusive VIP sections, but none quite matched the one the Miami Heat introduced April 1 at American Airlines Arena (soon to be known as the FTX Arena if all goes as planned). The short-lived incentive saw the Heat designate a specific entrance and two sections in the lower bowl for fans who'd been fully vaccinated for at least 14 days. The team eventually eliminated the perk, owing to the difficulty in enforcing its eligibility requirements.

Defensive Player Ladder: With NBA offense on the rise, defense still critical

Rudy Gobert has been a steady force on defense all season for the NBA-leading Jazz.
Long live offense! It’s the cry of the land across the NBA, from the number of 20-point scorers and triple-double stat lines we get these days to most of the rules changes enacted by the Competition Committee in recent years to whatever Golden State’s remarkable Stephen Curry is up to on any given night.
But does that mean defense is dead?
Well, no. Coaches who made their bones convincing players that their time on the court trying to stop the other guys is every bit as essential as what they do with the basketball probably feel beleaguered, maybe even betrayed. But they and their teams still are going to try, even with the game’s legislation and adjudication working against them.
