A large retaining wall that went up along Highway 299 in Shasta State Historic Park five years ago is getting a safety fix. On Monday, crews with Mitchell Johnson Construction of Redding started chipping away at the decorative stones on the wall after it was discovered last summer that they were falling off and creating a safety hazard, California Department of Transportation spokesman Chris Woodward said.
