Free bus rides from Redding to Whiskeytown starting Thursday
The Shasta Regional Transportation Agency is sponsoring free bus rides from downtown Redding to Brandy Creek Beach Thursday.

WHISKEYTOWN, Calif. - The Shasta Regional Transportation Agency is sponsoring free rides from downtown Redding to Brandy Creek Beach in Whiskeytown, according to the Shasta Regional Transportation Agency.
The bus rides will be starting Thursday and running through Labor Day weekend. The buses will run weekly every Thursday through Saturday, excluding holidays.
“The Beach Bus was a very popular community asset for Shasta County that last operated in 2017 and we’re looking forward to bringing back this transportation option for residents and visitors to enjoy the outdoors here in our backyard,” Dan Little, the Shasta Regional Transportation Agency’s Executive Director, said. ....

Highway 299 retaining wall in Shasta gets a safety upgrade


A large retaining wall that went up along Highway 299 in Shasta State Historic Park five years ago is getting a safety fix.
On Monday, crews with Mitchell Johnson Construction of Redding started chipping away at the decorative stones on the wall after it was discovered last summer that they were falling off and creating a safety hazard, California Department of Transportation spokesman Chris Woodward said.
The 224-foot wall, which ranges from 10 to 24 feet high, was part of a $1.9 million state ADA improvement project in 2016 that also added a sidewalk. The cost to take the rocks off and put a stain veneer in their place is $310,000, Woodward said. ....
