Former chief of police, Kevin McCabe retired in June 2020 after 10 years of service. The UNM Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency with the authority to make arrests on view and under warrant. All officers in the department are sworn and state-certified. The chief of police oversees and manages the operations of campus police and is responsible for the administration and strategic planning of the department, which provides police services, crime prevention, traffic control and emergency management for students, faculty and staff. ....

New Mexico has some of the lowest numbers of hospital beds per capita in the nation. However, UNM Hospital will soon help improve the situation by building a new hospital tower. Construction on phase two of the project will begin Monday. That construction phase really includes a parking structure to facilitate our new hospital tower, so we re looking at building about a 1,400 parking space structure which will be located just to the north of the proposed hospital tower location, said Mike Chicarelli, chief operating officer at UNM Hospital. ....
