The Board of Commissioners vetoed an ordinance unanimously adopted Tuesday by the Lake County Council to bring Senate Enrolled Act 157 into effect in Lake County.
Lake County is opting in to a new state program aimed at improving the health of Hoosiers by significantly increasing state funding for local public health services.
"We have been able to purchase a high-quality, operationally-efficient vessel equipped to handle the challenges we face on Lake Michigan," said Sheriff Oscar Martinez.
The sheriff is seeking to spend $860,802.47 to purchase a 38-foot long by 12-foot wide full cabin patrol boat, designed to withstand the rigors of Lake Michigan.
The Lake County Commissioners are continuing to take no action on contracts inked by Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr. that specifically pertain to the Lake County Jail.
