Mike, what is going on with this storm system? well, the storm, chris, is basically a life support like with bonnie, like with cauline, the systems have had a tough time remaining organized and this one may degenerate into an area of low pressure. hurricane hunter aircraft will go back out there early this afternoon. we had rain across southeast louisiana and parts of new orleans has been hit by heavy rain. that is going to be the real impact at this point. some heavy rain, three to five inches along the gulf coast and on the satellite loop, you can see a large, broad circulation but the low-level center is a couple hundred miles south of the florida panhandle and really hard to find. we have this big area spinning of clouds and thundershowers and that s all we have right now going for it. it may just fall apart and fall onshore and bring some rain to the areas that need rain. they did get everybody off the water yesterday ahead of this system. they should get this thing wrapped up i ....

Forecasters will likely discontinue the tropical storm warnings currently extending from florida to louisiana later today. the weather channel s mike sidel is in dolphin island, alabama. explain to us why this storm fell apart and threatening the area like we thought it would. reporter: yeah. well, it never really had a very healthy environment. wind shear, the winds mid and upper levels of the atmosphere are too strong. hurricanes, tropical storms are like heat engines. they like everything to evacuate and then get the outflow. so a lot of dry air. that is obviously not good for a tropical system. and even though it s sitting over 85 or 86-degree water, that is not the end all. you need more than just warm water or every thunderstorm out there would turn into a storm or hurricane. so it s not just the warm water. you have other issues. let s show you the gulf of mexico right now. in the distance, you see the oil platforms. the difference with this versus alex is the forecast was for ....

Oklahoma. a lot of people have a lot to clean up today, don t they, mike? the weather has improved. temperatures back in the 90s the last of the week and some of the destruction, this time yesterday the water was right here at 4, 4 1/2 feet deep and came up at that height for an hour and then receded. hence the name flash flooding. all these houses pretty much everything on the lower level, totaled. this is not a flood plain. this is one of those situations in nashville that happens every 100 years or more and they don t have flood insurance. yesterday was the wettest day on record here in oklahoma city. 7 .75 inches of rain fell. this morning the cleanup continues under the sunny skies. last month we had deadly twisters, a few days later hail stones the size of softballs and now the flash flooding. back to you. all right, mike, thank you. ....
