Summary
As he seeks to rule Uganda for 40 years, Museveni has eclipsed many leaders and by the end of his term in 2026, he will join the league of the longest-serving 20th Century leaders in the world. However, it has come to light that Mr Museveni put in place a team to prepare for transition in 2002 only to change his mind. Barely after the 2001 election, the President sent his surrogates to foreign lands to study the blueprint of orderly successions, which would be transplanted into the country as he planned his exit in 2006.
