Kolkata: No sooner had Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress sealed its third consecutive win in West Bengal than violence started in several parts of the state.
On May 2, after the mandate was clear that the ruling Trinamool Congress is going to retain power in the state, reports came in of alleged TMC goons ransacking several BJP party offices across the state. Again on Monday, violence against the BJP cadres was reported in the wee hours.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has sought a report from the West Bengal government of the post-election violence against opposition political workers in the state.

Centre Rules Out A National Lockdown; Directs States And The UTs To Consider Containment Measures

The Government has ruled out the imposition of a national lockdown to contain the spread of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic's scathing second wave while issuing fresh guidelines under the National Disaster Management Act, 2005 to bolster efforts to handle the situation,

While ruling out the possibility of imposing a national lockdown, the Government has directed the States and the Union Territories (UTs) to consider containment measures as suggested by the Union Ministry of Health recently.
The order is likely to impact cities in 10 major states reporting a majority of cases including cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Surat and Lucknow.

The Centre notified the amended Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Act, 2021 on Tuesday (27 April).
“In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (2) of section 1 of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Act, 2021 (15 of 2021), the Central Government hereby appoints the 27th day of April, 2021, as the date on which the provisions of the said Act shall come into force,” the ministry of home affairs said in a notification.

Centre bans use of liquid oxygen for any non-medical purpose, asks manufacturing units to maximise production

The Central government on Sunday reviewed the oxygen supply situation in the country and has now banned the use of liquid oxygen for any non-medical purpose. Moreover, all manufacturing units have been asked to maximise their production of liquid oxygen and make it available to the government with immediate effect, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said in a statement.
'It has been considered necessary to restrict industrial usage of oxygen supply situation for ensuring availability of adequate and uninterrupted supply of medical oxygen across the country for management of COVID," the MHA statement read.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Tuesday replied on India's stand of giving asylum to Myanmar refugees, saying that the country is not a signatory to the 1951 UN Convention relating to the Status of Refugees and the 1967 Protocol thereon.
In response to a question from Sugata Ray in Lok Sabha, the Homes Ministry said: "India is not a signatory to the 1951 UN Convention relating to the Status of Refugees and the 1967 Protocol thereon. All foreign nationals (including asylum seekers) are governed by the provisions contained in the Foreigners Act, 1946, the Registration of Foreigners Act, 1939, the Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1920 and the Citizenship Act, 1955, and rules and orders made there under."

635 Militants Killed In J&K In 2018-20, 42 Outfits Banned: Centre


SRINAGAR: The central government told Lok Sabha on Wednesday that a total of 42 militant outfits like the Lashkar-e-Taiba and the Jaish-e-Mohammed have been declared banned organisations in India for their involvement in various acts of terrorism, which is largely been sponsored from across the border.
In a written answer to a question in Lok Sabha Minister of State (MoS) for Home G Kishan Reddy also said that 635 militants were killed in Jammu and Kashmir between 2018 and 2020, while 115 civilians lost their lives in the Union Territory during the period.
Three civilians were also killed in the hinterland in the last three years, he added.
