New York State legalized cannabis for adult-use marijuana in March 2021. It’s little understood that several key features of the statute contradict longstanding tenets of sound public health policy and have nothing to do with social justice, adult-use cannabis or the legality of use or retail sale of cannabis.
Your View: Are we as a commonwealth going to recognize that it is time to stop funding violence and to start looking at marijuana for what it could be?
Someone has to grow the marijuana. Someone has to harvest it. Someone has to package it. And, someone has to distribute it. There is money to be made — and jobs to be created — around marketing, regulation, delivery and research, with offshoots that have no direct connection to the product at all.
